Karen & Tony Barone execute sculptures in 2 distinctive
signature styles. One style is their mostly life-size anamorphic
figurative works that change form before your very eyes. The imagery
moves from heavily abstracted non-objective form to an apparent
accurately crafted 2 dimensional figurative silhouette created by
angular forms. The work is optically illusionary. The form is 2
dimensional and 3 dimensional simultaneously. As one circles the work,
the subject "morphs" from realistic to abstract and vice versa.
Although a contradiction of terms, this accurately describes the visual
phenomenon taking place in viewing a Barone sculpture. Jim Nelson,
creator of Universal City Walk, describes the visual experience of
viewing Barone sculpture as "a 2 dimensional conclusion to a 3
dimensional discipline.”
