ArtAdoption
is the
brainchild of artists Karen & Tony Barone who sought a new way
to support
public art sculpture projects for cities, parks, schools, zoos and
anywhere art
is on public view. Without requesting funds from the cities or public
sector,
they decided they would gift the art to public
sector recipients and
raise the funds through private and business sector sponsorship
programs.
Normally
government has to
spend money to allocate money to purchase public art. In Karen
& Tony
Barone’s ArtAdoption program, the art acquisition money goes
directly from the
private sector to the artists. The artists fabricate the work and
oversee the
completion of the project through installation. The funds are channeled
through
a not-for-profit conduit to the
recipient (city, park, school, etc.) of the
art and earmarked as funds
for payment to the artists. The recipient receives the work at no
charge. The
recipient achieves the lofty goal of supporting the arts &
culture and also
satisfies the need to embellish its public spaces with art without
using funds
raised through taxation.
The
“ArtAdoption” project
allows for a private sector & citizens grass roots effort. It
gives art
advocates an opportunity to acquire an extraordinary sculpture that is
monumental in size and gift it to the public.
